Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 looks set to take the Thanksgiving weekend box office

Even though most of us are really pulling for THE MUPPETS to be the big winner this Thanksgiving weekend, it looks like it’s going to be a repeat performance from THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 1. Preliminary numbers point to the fourth film in the Twilight series to bring in about $58 million over the 5 day weekend and for Jason Segel’s Muppet reboot to bring in about $50 million. These are very preliminary numbers of course and my guess is that THE MUPPETS will end up doing a bit better since it’s receiving rave reviews and word of mouth will carry it through the weekend.
But right now, the big disappointment of the weekend belongs to Martin Scorsese’s 3D adventure HUGO, which is set to come in at a very weak 8th place and $11 million. To put it in perspective, the lesser known and lesser hyped ARTHUR SAVES CHRISTMAS is estimated to take in $22 million. Apparently, audiences aren’t interested in a Scorsese film unless there’s a lot of blood and violence involved. We’ll continue to update throughout the weekend, but as for now, get out there and go see THE MUPPETS.
