Robert Pattinson stars in the new Cosmopolis trailer

Robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis

You may not know this, but Robert Pattinson‘s latest film, COSMOPOLIS already has a Blu-ray release date in the United Kingdom.  Interestingly enough, BEL AMI was also released several months earlier in the UK than in the US, which I find strange.  With the release of the latest trailer for the new Robert Pattinson film, I realized that we hadn’t actually seen a domestic US trailer for COSMOPOLIS and the two trailers we have seen were actually international trailers.  This trailer is drastically different from the other trailers and I’m not sure that’s necessarily a good thing.  I feel like the others made the film sound more exciting while this one makes it feel kind of confusing.

COSMOPOLIS is based on the novel of the same name by Don DeLillo and follows a day in the life of a wealthy hedge fund trader (Robert Pattinson) who lives out a horrible day by sleeping with various women, betting millions of dollars on the declining global economy, avoiding a stalker that wants to kill him and all the while enjoying the luxuries of his limousine.  The film sounds promising, but this trailer made it feel a bit too existential and I’m curious to see how audiences are going to react.  I’m even more curious to see how Robert Pattinson’s fans will react to him in a bad-guy role.

COSMOPOLIS stars Robert Pattinson, Jay Baruchel, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Durand, Juliette Binoche, Smantha Morton, Mathieu Amalric and Sarah Gadon and is directed by David Cronenberg.  Early reviews from across the pond were not very kind on the film, although they all seemed to agree that Robert Pattinson does a great job. But for those of us hoping Robert Pattinson will find the key role to break out of the Twilight mold, I’m not sure COSMOPOLIS is going to be it.
