It has been reported that Ron Howard has signed on with Sony Pictures to direct MY STROKE OF INSIGHT which is based on the memoir of the same name written by Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. The story follows Dr. Taylor, a neuroanatomist, who suffers a severe stroke at the age of thirty-seven. Due to her expertise on the brain, she is able to give a blow-by-blow play of how her brain deteriorated and then recovered from this devestating illness. Mr. Howard will co-produce this film with Brian Grazer and rumor has it they want Jodie Foster to play Dr. Taylor. No word yet on when production on the film will begin.
I’ve actually read this book and found it extremely fascinating, but am a little surprised that it would be made into a movie. From what I remember, there isn’t a lot of action (or motion) in the book, it’s really just a very scientific look at the situation from a person who is an expert on the brain. I’ll be very interested to see how the film will turn out, and if anyone can do it, it’s Ron Howard.
