Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt or Rebecca Hall could join Johnny Depp in Transcendence

Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt and Rebecca Hall

The directorial debut of Wally Pfister, called TRANSCENDENCE, is slowly starting to take shape as three A-list actresses are up for the female lead in the film opposite Johnny Depp. Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt and Rebecca Hall are all on the short list for the role of Evelyn. Evelyn is the wife of Will (Johnny Depp) and is also a scientist. She will be the one who uploads Will’s brain into a supercomputer after his assassination by terrorists. The part of Evelyn was pegged for either Kate Winslet or Noomi Rapace, but Winslet had a scheduling conflict and apparently Rapace didn’t get the part. There’s a good chance that Emily Blunt will have a scheduling conflict with her upcoming film ALL YOU NEED IS KILL, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

TRANSCENDENCE is supposed to start shooting next March, so hopefully we’ll find out not only who the lead actress will be, but also if Christian Bale decides to come on as the other male lead very soon. There is no release date for TRANSCENDENCE right now, but we’ll probably see it around the end of 2014 or the beginning of 2015 if all goes well. (Deadline)
