Rooney Mara steps in for Mia Wasikowska in Carol
It seems Hollywood has been trying to bring Patricia Highsmith’s ‘The Price of Salt’ (the film will be called CAROL) to the big screen for a while now, but they can’t seem to lock in a cast. Hopefully, today’s news that Rooney Mara will be taking the lead role will be enough to get the film moving. She replaces Mia Wasikowska, who was originally slated to play the lead. Todd Haynes will be handling directing duties after taking over for John Crowley. So with a director and lead actress in place, this should get moving quickly.
The official synopsis of Patricia Highsmith’s ‘The Price of Salt’. The Price of Salt tells the riveting story of Therese Belivet, a stage designer trapped in a department-store day job, whose salvation arrives one day in the form of Carol Aird, an alluring suburban housewife in the throes of a divorce. They fall in love and set out across the United States, pursued by a private investigator who eventually blackmails Carol into a choice between her daughter and her lover. (ScreenDaily)
