Russell Crowe is joining Hugh Jackman and Helena Bonham Carter for Les Miserables

The cast for the big-screen version of Les Miserables is pretty amazing. Hugh Jackman and Helena Bonham Carter have already been signed on for the project and now another actor is coming on.

Russell Crowe is in negotations to star in the musical adaptation. There was rumor earlier that Crowe would join the cast and now it’s finally confirmed. When everything is said and done, Crowe will play Javert, the uncompassionate police inspector who will stop at nothing to recapture Jean Valjean (Jackman), the man who steals bread to feed his sister and spends the ensuing years in prison (or trying to escape it) while also becoming the guardian of  a young woman named Cosette. The story is set against the backdrop of a 19th century French rebellion. Carter would play Thenardier’s greedy wife.

Les Miserables will be directed by Tom Hooper (THE KING’S SPEECH). Playwright William Nicholson wrote the script based on Victor Hugo’s novel. I’m not too into musicals but I might actually have to see this one. Plus, there’s probably more stars to come.
