Ruth Wilson to join Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer in The Lone Ranger

Although nothing the quirky Gore Verbinski does should surprise me, I’m a little perplexed that Disney would allow a relative unknown to be cast as the female lead in THE LONE RANGER. After a handful of bombs from Jerry Bruckheimer, he and Disney need a hit in a bad way. But apparently they see something in British actress Ruth Wilson because she’s just landed the lead role opposite Armie Hammer‘s Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp’s Tonto. We don’t know the details as to who she’ll be playing or what misadventures our heroes will be getting into, but at something says love triangle to me.
Wilson probably isn’t recognizable to American audiences, but she was a Golden Globe nominee for her work in the 2006 Masterpiece Theater mini-series ‘Jane Eyre’. Seeing the Lone Ranger on the big screen, and in color for that matter, is going to take some getting used to, but hopefully Verbinski is up to the task. The film hits theaters December 12th, 2012.
