Ryan Gosling and Gaspar Noe spotted on the set of Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives

Ryan Gosling and Gaspar Noe on the set of Only God Forgives

So far, 2012 has been a quiet year for Ryan Gosling, at least when you compare it to the great year he had in 2011.  I can’t remember an actor that had more impressive performances and took on more fans in as short of a time period as Gosling from July, 2011 to October, 2011, he had CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE, DRIVE and THE IDES OF MARCH, all of which were top-ten-list worthy.  But for 2012, Ryan Gosling won’t have anything come out until later in the year, when he stars in THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES with Bradley Cooper and then THE GANGSTER SQUAD with Josh Brolin.  Of course, he also has the formerly titled LAWLESS with director Terrence Malick that could possibly come out in 2012, but probably won’t come out until 2013.  But right now, Ryan Gosling is busy filming ONLY GOD FORGIVES for his DRIVE director Nicolas Winding Refn. Along with Ryan Gosling, the film also stars Kristen Scott Thomas as a mother that enlists the help of her son (Ryan Gosling) to avenge the death of her other son.  But of course, things don’t go as planned.

Some images have popped up online showing a very bloodied Ryan Gosling and French director Gaspar Noe (ENTER THE VOID) walking around on set.  It’s interesting that Gaspar Noe would be on set, since Refn was known to have contacted him for advice while filming some of the more violent scenes in DRIVE.  I can only imagine the extreme violence we can expect in ONLY GOD FORGIVES.  In other news, we may get to see Ryan Gosling in ONLY GOD FORGIVES this summer since Refn recently tweeted “So sorry for disappearing but we’re pushing hard toward our goal: be ready for last week of August.  More news soon.”  The Venice Film Festival starts around that time, so that would be an exciting treat for anyone in attendance.
