Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn take to the streets of LA in the new Gangster Squad trailer

Ryan Gosling in Gangster Squad trailer

It’s been awhile since there’s been any good Ryan Gosling news so it’s with a happy heart we give you the latest international trailer for his upcoming film GANGSTER SQUAD. With only a couple of months before it hits theaters there is sure to be a push from the studio to keep it on your list of must see films this fall.  The real question is whether or not it will have enough buzz to make it a player come awards season.  On paper, it looked like it could be a contender, but after a couple of trailers, it kind of looks more like a fun action noir film than an Oscar film.  Since GANGSTER SQUAD hits theaters in September rather than December, I’m guessing the studio felt the same way.  For those of you waiting for Ryan Gosling to pick up that Academy Award he so very much deserves, you’ll probably have to wait a little while longer.  But it won’t be long, Ryan Gosling is too talented and chooses too many great roles.

GANGSTER SQUAD follows a group of LAPD cops (Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin) who are part of a team bent on taking down the Los Angeles mob boss Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). Since Cohen is protected by many cops on his payroll, the new team must go against the system they are a part of to rid the streets of this bad boy. Directed by Reuben Fleisher, GANGSTER SQUAD stars: Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin , Robert Patrick, Anthony Mackie, Michael Pena, Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Holt McCallany, Frank Grillo, Mirielle Enos and Troy Garity.  That’s an amazing cast, so here’s hoping director Reuben Fleischer knocks it out of the park and fully utilizes the talent at his disposal.  GANGSTER SQUAD  hits theaters on September 7, 2012.
