Ryan Murphy and Julia Roberts reteam on new romantic comedy

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

Their first film hasn’t even hit theaters yet, but apparently Sony Pictures head honcho Amy Pascal is so impressed with what she sees in EAT, PRAY, LOVE that she’s already signed director/writer Ryan Murphy and star Julia Roberts onto another film.  ‘Glee’ co-creator Ryan Murphy will receive $5 million to write and direct the untitled romantic comedy.  In the new film, Roberts will play a hard working married woman whose husband is a stay at home dad.  When Roberts loses her job, she and her husband switch roles and she has to learn to take care of the kids.

I have a couple of questions about this deal that Pascal made.  First, haven’t we seen this storyline before?  It seems like every couple of years we get a comedy where an adult has to learn to take care of kids.  And Second, shouldn’t you wait until EAT, PRAY, LOVE hits theaters before you start signing everyone up for a follow-up collaboration?  I question if Julia still has the star power to carry her own film and it seems like the concept for the film is targeted to a very small niche of the movie-going public.
