Ryan Reynolds and Ben Mendelsohn star in the first Mississippi Grind trailer

At this point in Ryan Reynolds’ career, most people are either dismissive of him or have turned into Ryan Reynolds apologizers. I guess I fall into the latter group because even though I’ve disliked 90% of his movies, I still give him a chance and continue to make excuses for him (he doesn’t have the right script, he had a bad director, he had a bad haircut, etc.). His latest pre-Deadpool film is the gambling drama MISSISSIPI GRIND and yes, I’ll give it a shot and yes, I’ll probably be making excuses for him after this comes out. But at least he’s challenging himself and doing different things. Check out the trailer below.

The official MISSISSIPPI GRIND synopsis: Gerry is a talented, but struggling poker player about to be swallowed up by his unshakeable gambling habit. But his luck begins to change after he meets the young, charismatic Curtis. Gerry convinces his new lucky charm to hit the road with him, towards a legendary high stakes poker game in New Orleans. The highs and lows unveil the duo’s true characters and motivations, and an undeniable bond forms between them. MISSISSIPPI GRIND stars Ryan Reynolds, Ben Mendelsohn, Analeigh Tipton and Sienna Miller. The Ryan Fleck directed film hits theaters on September 25th.
