Ryan Reynolds may take on a remake of Highlander

Ryan Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds is one of those stars that seem like they are an A-lister, but they really aren’t. Not that I dislike Ryan Reynolds, I actually think he’s got a great screen presence and obviously he’s not difficult to look at; he’s almost an A-list actor but he’s not quite there. Though he has been in huge box office comedies and action films he hasn’t quite hit his stride. And I hate to break it to him, but taking on a remake of the classic film  HIGHLANDER isn’t going to help get him further.

For those unfortunate enough to miss it, the 1986 film HIGHLANDER starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod who after dying during a battle in the Highlands discovers that he’s immortal. Another immortal named Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez (played by the dapper Sean Connery) takes Connor under his wing and teaches him some fighting skills so he can duel other immortals. Why? Because there can be only one. I’m pretty sure HIGHLANDER has a bit of a cult following, so it’ll be interesting to see if this remake actually gets off the ground or if this is just another kernel in the rumor mill.

Regardless as to whether or not Ryan Reynolds does become the next Highlander, he still has several films on his plate in the next year. Ryan Reynolds will be participating in the following films in 2013: THE CROODS, R.I.P.D, TURBO, BIG EYES and in 2014 he’ll be reprising his role as Deadpool in the spinoff DEADPOOL. Playing some sort of superhero seems to be his M.O. as he’s already portrayed the Green Lantern and obviously Deadpool, plus I’m pretty sure he was one of the guys eyeing the role of the Flash back in the day. Hopefully we won’t be adding the role of immortal to his credits. (Variety)
