Sacha Baron Cohen has his legions of fans, especially after the success of BORAT and BRUNO, but for me, the guy’s schtick has run its course. The first trailer for THE DICTATOR has arrived and it features some tired jokes and easy digs that you would expect from some kids trying to make a film, not a seasoned comedy veteran like Cohen. There’s even a Kardashian joke, as if we haven’t been lambasted with jokes on them for the last couple of years. But there’s a few glimmers of hope and there’s more than enough opportunity when you make a movie about a Middle Eastern dictator vacationing in America.
The film stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Megan Fox, Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly and B.J. Novak (from ‘The Office’). The film is once again directed by frequent Cohen collaborator Larry Charles. THE DICTATOR hits theaters everywhere on May 11th, 2012.
