Andrew Niccol will direct Saoirse Ronan in The Host from Twilight author Stephenie Meyer

Posted by: Kristy Sturdivant

Last week when we announced that Saoirse Ronan would be starring in the adaptation of the Stephenie Meyer novel THE HOST it was rumored that Andrew Niccol would be boarding the film as director.  Looks like we now have confirmation from him that he will go behind the cameras and bring the body snatcher-like film to the big screen. It’s not terribly surprising since he helped adapt the novel, but sometimes you never know with these directors as projects come and projects go. It appears that this project will also be shopped around the Cannes Film Festival and with Ronan and Niccol attached (not to mention the ridiculous success of the TWILIGHT films) I’m sure these guys won’t have any problems finding financiers. No word on when filming will actually begin, but keep your eyes peeled for casting news shortly.

I’ll be interested to see if THE HOST does well at the box office. I know Stephenie Meyer fans are loyal, but this is quite a removal from the TWILIGHT saga. Are you Meyer fans out there excited about this film?
