Sam Worthington and Xavier Samuel are laid back in new images from Drift
In case you missed it, another surfing film is coming our way very soon and it looks like we’re finally getting to see a few new images. You may remember us reporting that TWILIGHT’S Xavier Samuel joined Sam Worthington in the upcoming film DRIFT, but much to my surprise I have just discovered that Sam Worthington is just a supporting member of the cast and Xavier Samuel is actually one of the main stars. Not that Sam Worthington in a supporting role is bad, I just thought he had already pushed past that status.
DRIFT is co-directed by Morgan O’Neill and Ben Nott and follows The Kelly Brothers, Andy (Myles Pollard) and Jimmy (Xavier Samuel), who are pretty much expert surfers residing in Australia during the 70’s. When Jimmy starts to slip towards a life of crime to help get the family out of debt, Andy steps in and leaves behind his career to start a business to promote Jimmy’s surfing inventions and together they launch a backyard surf gear venture. They are encouraged by their friends, one of which is a bohemian surf photographer named JB (Sam Worthington) and his friend Lani (Lesley-Ann Brandt). All of their hard work may be in vain as they get mixed up with a local drug dealer, but I’m sure they will pull through against all odds. DRIFT was shot last year and was supposed to be released sometime this summer but has yet to have a date set in stone.
I feel like I’ve been hearing a lot of projects that involve Sam Worthington, but haven’t really seen much of him on screen. Recently we’ve seen Sam Worthington in TEXAS KILLING FIELDS, MAN ON A LEDGE and THE DEBT, but I’m more interested in seeing if he can redeem himself in the sequel WRATH OF THE TITANS. I don’t have much hope for that franchise, but I am definitely curious. (TF1 International)
