Saoirse Ronan in the first look at How I Live Now
We’ve watched child stars grow up before our very eyes often in Hollywood, but it’s hard to find a young actress that has managed to do it with as much grace as Saoirse Ronan. I’ve been following her since her amazing performance in ATONEMENT and I haven’t been disappointed since. Saoirse Ronan has pretty much avoided the normal trappings of silly teenage romantic comedies or even worse teenage horror films and has stuck to interesting, challenging films. You can add HOW I LIVE NOW to her list of films that will take her from child star to movie star and below you can see the first look at Saoirse Ronan in the film.
HOW I LIVE NOW is based on the young adult novel of the same name by Meg Rosoff (who posted the pic on her blog) and follows a New York teenager named Daisy (Saoirse Ronan) who goes to England to visit her aunt and cousins. The day after her aunt leaves on business, World War III breaks out, forcing Daisy to protect her little niece and deal with her growing feelings for her older cousin, all the while facing a very uncertain world at war. It sounds like pretty heavy stuff, but with this many elements going on, it’s going to be important for director Kevin Macdonald (THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND) to balance the intensity of war and the budding (and somewhat uncomfortable) love story.
HOW I LIVE NOW stars Saoirse Ronan, George MacKay, Tom Holland and Harley Bird. The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but it should hit theaters sometime in 2013. Saoirse Ronan has several films on the way, including the adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s THE HOST, the vampire film BYZANTIUM and maybe even a starring role in Darren Aronofsky’s NOAH. Although that last one might be tough since Saoirse Ronan is currently filming HOW I LIVE.
