Shailene Woodley circling the YA novel adaptation Divergent
It seems these days one of the quickest ways for an actress or actor to become a star is to hitch a ride to a Young Adult novel adaptation. It worked for Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence, and there’s a decent shot it will work for actress Shailene Woodley as well. Right now Shailene Woodley (THE DESCENDANTS) is in negotiations to star in the upcoming adaptation of the novel DIVERGENT based on the novel by Veronica Roth. DIVERGENT follows a teenage girl named Beatrice who lives in a dystopian society where one must choose to live in one of five factions: Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave), Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful) or Erudite (the intelligent) for the rest of their lives. When Beatrice chooses a faction that is different from what her family thought she would have chosen, she embarks on a life of adventure and romance.
DIVERGENT is one of those films that Summit is planning on making into a trilogy, so if Shailene Woodley does decide to sign on she will be padding her bank account for the next 5-6 years. And since Summit is most likely banking on the fact that DIVERGENT will be the next TWILIGHT franchise, you can expect to hear a lot about in the next couple of years. Shooting is supposed to start next March with a release in the Spring of 2014. (Deadline)
