Shrek 4 continues box office run while Get Him To The Greek disappoints

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

As far as anticipated movies go, this has to be one of the weakest summers in recent memory.  We had IRON MAN 2 and then TOY STORY 3 and a few other highlights, but this has been the summer of “blah” when it comes to movies.  This weekends two new movies continued that trend with both GET HIM TO THE GREEK and KILLERS debuting with disappointing numbers.  I’m not surprised by either debut since Greek didn’t have very good previews for a comedy and KILLERS starred Ashton Kutcher.  I know it’s nothing original to bash the guy, but why in the world would a studio release anything he’s in during the summer?  He’s a mid-winter kind of guy if there ever was one.  Oh, and then there was MARMADUKE…sigh.

Next week sees the release of THE A-TEAM and THE KARATE KID.  Although I’m looking forward to THE A-TEAM, it can go either way.  A few too many cheesy moments or too many poorly delivered lines from Rampage Jackson and you have yourself a dud.  As for THE KARATE KID, I think it will do a good job of introducing the popular story to a new generation, but I don’t know if adults will get anything out of it.
