Sony Pictures has picked their new Spider-Man in Andrew Garfield

Nearly two years exactly from now, July 3, 2010, another SPIDERMAN reboot will be swinging into theaters, in 3D no less. The search for the new web-flinging hero has finally comes to an end. Sony Pictures has announce that 26-year-old British actor Andrew Garfield will be playing Peter Parker and his alter-ego.

Marc Webb will be directing who also did the entertaining 500 DAYS OF SUMMER so that’s a plus. The screenplay is by James Vanderbilt who wrote the impressive ZODIAC, that’s another plus. Garfield was recently in Robert Redford’s LIONS FOR LAMBS and Terry Gilliam’s THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARASSUS. He will also be in Spike Jonze’s I’M HERE and David Fincher’s THE SOCIAL NETWORK, both coming out later this year. I would say this kid has an impressive resume.  Webb had this to say about Garfield,

“Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor’s work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker.”

I would say fan boys should be pretty pleased. I have to admit they have some great talent on board. However, I still think this is a very annoying reboot. I know I’m in the minority when I say the first three were completed overrated films.  I have never once found myself thinking I would like to watch any of them ever again.
