Steven Spielberg talks Jurassic Park 4, blames George Lucas for Indiana Jones 4

Regardless of how talented you are, you can’t have a 30+ year career in Hollywood if you burn bridges and trash your friends.  So somewhere along the way, you have to learn hot to speak, especially in public.  Few people are better at that than Steven Spielberg and let’s face it; the guy could get away saying anything he wants, but he still holds his old friends in high regard and would never sell them out.  But while speaking to Empire Magazine, The Bearded One talked about the travesty that was INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL.  When questioned about the infamous aliens:

“I sympathise with people who didn’t like the MacGuffin because I never liked the MacGuffin, George and I had big arguments about the MacGuffin. I didn’t want these things to be either aliens or inter-dimensional beings. But I am loyal to my best friend. When he writes a story he believes in – even if I don’t believe in it – I’m going to shoot the movie the way George envisaged it.”

So to recap, the reason Indy 4 was almost unbearable to watch is that Lucas refused to listen to people that know how to tell stories and instead, pushed through with a horrible idea that would alienate his fan base.  Oh I know, shocking.  He also mentioned that Lucas is working on the story for the next Indiana Jones adventure, but no screenplay had been written yet.  But Spielberg talked a little about Jurassic Park 4 and said: “The screenplay is being written right now by Mark Protosevich. I’m hoping that will come out in the next couple of years. We have a good story. We have a better story for four than we had for three.
