Sylvester Stallone drops Rambo 5, focuses on Expendables 2

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

Sylvester Stallone has had quite a resurgence the past couple of years, due in large part to bringing back his iconic characters Rocky Balboa and John Rambo.  After RAMBO ended (also known as “Rambo 4”), rumors began circulating that Stallone would jump on another Rambo sequel to keep the money machine going.  He had even confirmed reports and all sorts of various storylines surfaced about what our hero might battle in the fifth installment.  But now it looks like he’s done with the franchise and he said this to Empire:

“I think Rambo’s pretty well done. I don’t think there’ll be any more. I’m about 99% sure.  I was going to do it. I said I’d never talk about this, but I feel that with Rocky Balboa , that character came complete circle. He went home. But for Rambo to go on another adventure might be, I think, misinterpreted as a mercenary gesture and not necessary. I don’t want that to happen.”

He also went on to say that he’s working on a director’s cut of the fourth Rambo that will include a big speech he gives to Julie Benz’s character.  But the news that might excite fans is that he considers himself “very serious” about doing a sequel to THE EXPENDABLES.  If that happens, I’m hoping he expands on Schwarzenegger’s character and maybe the two stars can team up on a mission.  Hey, a boy can dream, can’t he?
