I.T. Blu-ray Review
Mike Regan (Pierce Brosnan) is a confident guy. He’s a self made man who is ready to take his company to the next step. His company is Regan Aviation and they’ve developed an application called Omni Jet that will make it easier for people to charter private planes in his fleet. He just needs approval from the SEC and then he can take his company public. He has a lot riding on this and needs everything to go his way. Mike is perfectly willing to bend the rules a bit to get the approval.
Mike lives in a luxurious house with his wife Rose (Anna Friel) and their teen daughter Kaitlyn (Stefanie Scott). Even though Mike does deal with complicated stuff like air travel, he does not really like technology. His home is equipped to be a smart home, but he had it disabled so he can live in some peace in it.
During a presentation to investors, there is a glitch in the video. He goes to a temp IT (information technology) guy named Ed (James Frecheville) to fix his issue. Ed does this quickly and efficiently. This impresses Mike who seems to be at the mercy of technology.
Mike is asked by his daughter to get the internet connection fixed. He thinks of Ed to help him out in this department. Mike thinks highly of him and predicts great things in the future with his company. Ed takes this to heart and asks for personal information regarding his internet and his security system. Ed reveals to Mike that he used to work for the NSA and that it changed him for the worse. It is not a subject he wants to talk about. That would have been the first clue to Mike that Ed isn’t all the way there.
I.T. starts out well with its commentary on how we are so reliant on technology and all that it brings. Ed seems quite harmless at first. But then he gets creepier and creepier. When he helps out with Mike’s computer, he spies on Kaitlyn in her bikini. Ed feels like part of the family when Mike invites him to stay for dinner.
I did like how Ed slowly works his way into the Regan household. He does this by first friending Kaitlyn on Facebook. Her approval sends the wrong signals to Ed. Ed starts showing up at dinner parties and Kaitlyn’s sporting events. There is a real tension between Mike and Ed. Mike knows that it is mainly his fault that he let Ed into his house. The cat and mouse game between Mike and Ed shows potential, but it doesn’t quite hold together as the movie goes along. You have multiple confrontations and threats and finally a final showdown to see who comes out on top.
I.T. is a serviceable thriller with a good first half that touches on technology and who can you trust in your life with your information.
BLU-RAY REVIEW
Video: The video is solid throughout and presented in a clear and concise fashion.
Audio: The sound was just adequate. After a while, I did have to put on the closed captioning to help hear what the characters were saying.
Behind the Scenes of I.T. (8:06): Brosnan, Friel and Frecheville discuss the story, their costars and the director.
