I was one of those that really thought Alexander Skarsgard was going to end up playing Thor in Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation, but the part eventually went to Chris Hemsworth instead. Skarsgard is looking to move past that with a starring role in 2012’s high-profile BATTLESHIP. He will play the straight-laced, older brother of the maverick lead, which will be played by Taylor Kitsch. Peter Berg will be directing and now the film is said to add an alien invasion twist to the story.
I’m not sure where the alien invasion story came from. It has been a while since I sat down and played the old board-game, but I don’t remember aliens being involved at all. If you were frustrated at the shameless attempt to market a movie with a familiar name, this probably doesn’t make you any happier.
