Robert Downey, Jr. is taking on a musical

Robert Downey, Jr. is attached to star in a musical, isn’t that exciting?! We’re talking a full on musical here, not that mediocre piece of junk called THE SINGING DETECTIVE, this is a legit film where RDJ will have to sing and play the piano (remember when he did that in TV’s Ally McBeal).  He’s not completely committed, but he is in serious talks to lead up a film about two Broadway songwriters who are in a slump and need to get some financial and creative help, so they take jobs at a theater camp for kids while working on a comeback.  It sounds sort of like a better version of the hit THE PRODUCERS.  Writers Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt pitched this idea specifically to RDJ because he attended theater camp himself as a kid.  It’s still in early negotiations but it looks promising.

I personally find this news even more exciting than the news we posted earlier this week about a collaboration between Paul Thomas Anderson and Robert Downey, Jr., but of course both are on my must see list just as they should be on yours.
