Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that the indie drama WELCOME TO THE RILEYS, starring Kristen Stewart, James Gandolfini and Ally Sheedy, will be released on Blu-ray February 1, 2011. The film follows Doug Riley (Gandolfini) as he goes on a business trip and meets Mallory (Stewart) who reminds him of his own daughter. They form a father-daughter type relationship to help them through their own personal struggles. The film had a limited release in the US and didn’t even gross $1 million at the box office although it received decent reviews. Watch the trailer here.
I don’t really enjoy Kristen Stewart in the TWILIGHT films but I have to give her credit for consistently doing films that take her out of that romantic teenage role. Her turn as Joan Jett in THE RUNAWAYS was great and her role as Mallory in WELCOME TO THE RILEYS is one I’ve been looking forward to seeing as well. I think of all the TWILIGHT stars, she has the most longevity in Hollywood because she is always trying new things and taking good roles.
