Mark Ruffalo to portray jazz pianist Joe Albany in Low Down

Hot off the heels of his latest Academy Award nomination, Mark Ruffalo (THE AVENGERS and THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT) has selected his next project which will start shooting at the end of this year. He will star in LOW DOWN, which is the story of Joe Albany who was a famous jazz pianist in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s who struggled with heroin. The film will not really follow his career, but the relationship he has with his pre-teen daughter who accompanied him on his gigs in cocktail bars and will actually be told from her point of view. The film will be directed by Jeff Preiss and is based on the memoir from Albany’s daughter Amy Albany.

In my humble opinion, Mark Ruffalo is one of the most under-rated actors in Hollywood. He’s definitely a bright star right now, but he’s been doing consistently good work for years and LOW DOWN sounds like a perfect role for him. I can’t wait to see how this develops and who will play his daughter (although my bet is on Elle Fanning-I don’t think there is a ton of competition in her age bracket).
