Robert Pattinson eyed for lead in Green Day's American Idiot

It’s not often that a quote from 2009 can become noteworthy two years later, but that’s exactly what’s happening with Green Day front-man Billie Joe Armstrong’s quote in 2009 when he was asked who should play the lead in a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical ‘American Idiot’ and he responded by saying “I’m gonna say maybe that kid in ‘Twilight,’ [Pattinson]. He’s a good actor. There’s still more to come with that kid.”  The musical, of course, is based off the Green Day album of the same name.  So why is this becoming news now?  Turns out that the Pop Up Video revival going on at VH1 used the quote on one of their shows and now it has people talking.

People are still speculating what R-Patz’s next role will be.  He has THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 1 in November, then BEL AMI, then COSMOPOLIS with David Cronenberg.  After that, he doesn’t have anything lined up.  At this point, this news is pure speculation 9and 2 year old speculation at that), so don’t make any plans.  I don’t think a theatrical version of ‘American Idiot’ would get going that fast, but with Pattinson in the lead, it would definitely speed things up.  Plus, his fans seem to be anxious to get him singing again.
