Rooney Mara has had an interesting career since starring in David Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. And when I say “interesting”, what I really meant is “different” because she’s shied away from the big blockbuster films and instead has focused on smaller, character driven pieces like AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS and SIDE EFFECTS. I thoroughly enjoy her performances and respect her for focusing on her craft rather than chasing the next Marvel or DC movie. Next up for Rooney Mara is a starring role in Benedict Andrews’ BLACKBIRD. She’ll star in the film with Ben Mendelsohn and since it’s based on the play of the same name, it looks like another character driven piece for Mara to sink her teeth into. Check out the synopsis below. Filming is scheduled to start next summer in the U.K.
The official BLACKBIRD synopsis: In Blackbird, adapted by David Harrower from his Olivier Award winning play of the same title, two people who once had a passionate affair meet again fifteen years later. Ray is confronted with his past when Una arrives unannounced at his office, and they are forced to revisit their relationship. Ray has made a new life for himself. Una is looking for answers. What follows in this emotional thriller is an unflinching excavation of damaged love. The consequences are shattering.
