THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA franchise (based on the C.S. Lewis books) has suffered some bumps and bruises along the way what with the changing of studios and low box office tallies, but Twentieth Century Fox doesn’t care and will most likely be moving forward with the fourth installment in the franchise which will be THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW. Originally it was speculated that the next chapter would be The Silver Chair, but Walden Media has decided to go with THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW which is actually a prequel to THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. The film (which is based on the sixth book in the series) will follow the creation of Narnia and how evil came into the land. The film will also introduce a younger Professor Kirke (he was in the first book and film) who is introduced to Narnia by a ring given to him by his evil magician uncle. Since this is still being worked out at the very early stages of production, don’t expect to see this hit theaters for at least a couple of years.
I can’t say that I’m surprised they are making another film in this franchise because it touches the large christian market which most studios tend to ignore. I personally didn’t like any of the films that have been produced thus far, but that’s probably because I can’t stand the actors who are playing these roles not because I don’t like the story.
