Ever since he pulled off the Spider-Man outfit, Tobey Maguire has been in very few films the last couple of years. Tobey Maguire did star in BROTHERS and THE DETAILS and we’ll see him in Baz Luhrmann’s film THE GREAT GATSBY next year, but for the most part he’s been flying under the radar picking his roles with great care. It’s good news to hear that he has signed on to star in and produce the upcoming post-apocalyptic film Z FOR ZACHARIAH.
Directed by Craig Zobel (COMPLIANCE) Z FOR ZACHARIAH is based on the novel by Robert C. O’Brien about a Midwest teen who survives a nuclear war and heavy nerve gases because she lives in a valley with a self-contained weather system. Things get hairy when two travelers arrive in her part of the world. Tobey Maguire will play a scientist who the girl cares for as he gets sick from a contaminated stream nearby. No word on when Z FOR ZACHARIAH will go in front of cameras, but look for more casting news in the next couple of months. (Variety)
