Universal Pictures buys the rights to Lunatics for Steve Carell

I keep seeing all these projects that Steve Carell has signed on to but nothing as come of any of them so far. I try to focus on his more dramatic roles since I really think he plays them so well. After watching LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, I noticed that Carell really tends to shine when gets serious. But don’t get things crossed, I love his comedic roles as well.

Adding another project to the pile, Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Dave Barry and Alan Zweibel novel Lunatics with Carell set to star. The film centers on two New Jersey soccer dads whose minor feud escalates to create worldwide consequences, and leave them running for their lives. Carell will play the role of Philip Horkman, the owner of a pet store who refs kids soccer games on Sundays, and there he meets an irate soccer dad who triggers the misadventures.

I really miss Carell on THE OFFICE. James Spader is creepy and great but he’s no Michael Scott.

Steve Carell
