Mickey Rourke set to star in The Ice Man Killer

I have a friend that loaned me Philip Carlo’s true account of Richard “The Ice Man” Kuklinski, titled ‘The Ice Man: Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer’.  I had it for a while, but only read about three chapters.  It’s a well written book and it’s fascinating, but what makes it difficult to get through is knowing that it’s true.  Obviously, I know that the mafia kill people every day, but sitting down and reading about a guy that did it for over 40 years and continued to live a normal life with a wife and kids is really, really disturbing.  But it’s also interesting, which means Hollywood is going to make it into a movie.  In this case, David McKenna (BLOW) is going to write the screenplay and none other than Mickey Rourke is going to be playing The Ice Man. THE ICE MAN KILLER will tell the story of Richard Kuklinski, who worked as a hit-man for the mafia for many years, always finding new and innovative ways to kill people.

The casting makes perfect sense and now attaching his face to what I’ve read works perfectly.  The problem with this news is that audiences seem to be growing tired of hit-man movies and mafia thug films, so whoever they get to direct the film is going to have to put a new and original spin on it to make it successful.  But they have the casting right and Rourke should have a lot of fun with this role.
