Everyone seems to be trying to get a movie on The Beach Boys or a member of the band going. The only one that is making any progress so far is the biopic on drummer Dennis Wilson.
Aaron Eckhart has signed on to play Wilson in THE DRUMMER. Randy Miller and Jody Savin the team behind the 2008 film BOTTLE SHOCK starring Alan Rickman will produce on this one. Savin penned the script.
Eckhart has been in negotiations to take on the role for awhile now. The producers were looking for someone who was convincing in the part and they also had to be able to carry a tune. The actor will do his own recordings of Wilson’s 1977 album, “Pacific Ocean Blue”. The film will star shooting early next year and will cover the last six years of the drummer’s life before his death in 1983.
If they wouldn’t have chosen Eckhart, I would have gone with Andrew Wilson. This assuming he can sing.
