Michael Fassbender set to Climb The Mountain for Gerardo Naranjo

Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender is everywhere these days, but it’s hard not to be impressed with what he’s done since starring in Tarantino’s INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.  He already had a decent resume before that, appearing in 300 and of course, dominating the screen in HUNGER, but it after Basterds, Michael Fassbender has really taken off.  Ignoring the unwatchable JONAH HEX, he’s had JANE EYRE, X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, A DANGEROUS METHOD, SHAME and HAYWIRE.  All of those were good films and what’s more impressive, they gave Michael Fassbender a chance to diversify and show off his acting chops.  And the future is incredibly bright because on the horizon, he has PROMETHEUS, TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE, THE COUNSELOR, the X-Men sequel and now, Michael Fassbender is set to star in CLIMB THE MOUNTAIN for director Gerardo Naranjo (MISS BALA).

The script was written by J. Mills Goodloe and is based off the book of the same name by Charles Martin.  In the film, Michael Fassbender will play Ben, a doctor traveling East that meets Ashley, who is headed the same direction for her wedding.  But after their flight gets cancelled, the two decide to charter their own flight, only to have the plane crash land after the pilot suffers a heart attack.  Stranded on a mountain, the two have to fight the elements to survive and of course, they fall in love in the process.  Sounds like another unique role for Michael Fassbender.

I haven’t read the book, so I’m not sure what the tone is, but it has elements of the atrocious SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS and if its anything like that, then they should stop production now.  But my guess is this is very different and probably has deeper elements than what’s in the description.  Plus, with Michael Fassbender starring and Gerardo Naranjo directing, this is one to keep an eye on.
