A remake of the classic musical GUYS AND DOLLS has been in the works since before I started writing about movies in 2005. It seems every couple of years, it goes through an initial development and all of the popular actors of the time start clamoring to be a part of it. But until now, there were issues with the rights to the musical which were held by Jo Loesser (the widow of songwriter Frank Loesser) and she couldn’t find a deal she liked. Well, I guess Fox said something that the other studios couldn’t (read: they paid more) and now Fox officially owns the movie rights to the musical.
And of course, Fox needs some serious star power to go along with their new property and right now, they want Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to reunite (they were in G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA), taking over the iconic roles from Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra. Of course, all of this is in the very early stages and neither actor would sign without a script and a director. But if Fox can get the right filmmakers in place, they might sign on because both Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have expressed interest. (Deadline)
