Natalie Portman seems pretty far removed from her Oscar winning turn in THE BLACK SWAN, but the talented young actress seems to be attaching herself to more Oscar worthy films these days. Recently, we learned that Natalie Portman is circling a role in THE GARDEN OF BEASTS with Tom hanks. And now, she’s taking a look at starring as Jackie Onassis in the long gestating biopic, JACKIE. As you may recall, Natalie Portman is not the first actress to attach herself to the project. The film will follow Jackie in the four days between her husband’s assassination and his burial.
Rachel Weisz was going to play the iconic former First Lady for the longest time, but that seemed to have fallen through. Interestingly enough, director Darren Aronofsky was going to direct the film when Weisz was attached, but as their personal life went awry, so did their involvement with JACKIE. Of course, Natalie Portman worked with Aronofsky on THE BLACK SWAN, so she may be able to get him back in the director’s chair. Talks are still in the early stages, but if Portman does sign on, I would expect this to move quickly. (Deadline)
