I hadn’t heard much about THE WINNING SEASON and given it stars one of my favorite actors, Sam Rockwell, that’s disappointing. But today we get the first image from the film, featuring the cute-but-still-awkward-looking Emma Roberts playing basketball. In the film, Rockwell plays an adult slacker that ends up coaching a girl’s high school basketball team. Emma Roberts, of course, is one member of that team. The film also stars Shareeka Epps, Emily Rios and Rob Corddry, who is probably still riding high from his hilarious turn in HOT TUB TIME MACHINE.
The film sounds overly familiar and can be likened to any number of sports movies, but the one that sticks out is THE MIGHTY DUCKS. However, Sam Rockwell usually gives a good performance and pairing him up with Corddry should make for some good laughs. I’m still not sure about Emma Roberts, though. It opens in theaters on September 3rd…which reminds me, why haven’t we seen a trailer yet?
