Earlier this year, it was reported that Danny Elfman would be teaming up with T Bone Burnett to provide the musical score to the highly anticipated THE HUNGER GAMES. But today, Elfman dropped out and was replaced by James Newton Howard. It looks like Howard is still set to work with T Bone, so the overall musical influence of the film shouldn’t change too much. Howard has scored such recent films as WATER FOR ELEPHANTS and THE SIXTH SENSE. Although I’m a fan of Elfman’s, I don’t think Howard is a step down by any means. And after THE HUNGER GAMES trailer, I don’t think they can do too much to reduce the excitement around the film.
The Gary Ross directed film will star Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Lenny Kravitz and Donald Sutherland. THE HUNGER GAMES is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2012.
