His fans seem to be ecstatic at the release of the MACHETE trailer, but like Robert Rodriguez’s PLANET TERROR, I think he’s only going to be able to appease a very small audience with this film. In the months leading up to GRINDHOUSE, everyone was excited about the prospects of him and Tarantino doing a campy horror movie together. And everyone that saw it (seemingly), liked it. The problem, of course, is that not many people saw it. As cool as the idea is to make a movie of MACHETE, I can’t help but think this would make a better 3 minute trailer, like it was originally intended. But don’t get me wrong, I’ll still see it and I’m sure it will be fun in the same way PLANET TERROR was fun; just consider me cautiously optimistic for this one.
The film stars Danny Trejo as a Mexican mercenary out for revenge. Joining him in the film are Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Jeff Fahey, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Lindsay Lohan. Speaking of Lindsay, I’m surprised they didn’t show any scenes of her, considering her current popularity.
