Christina Hendricks signs on for A Book of Common Prayer

If there’s one star, other than Jon Hamm, of TV’s ‘Mad Men’ that should have been able to capitalize on their success, it’s Christina Hendricks.  In fact, I’d say that in the early years of the show, we heard more about the voluptuous Chrisitna Hendricks than anyone else.  Before I started watching, I thought the show was about her.  But whatever the reason, Christina Hendricks hasn’t been able to get that break out movie role and has been relegated to small, supporting roles in movies like I DON’T KNOW HOW SHE DOES IT, DRIVE and GINGER & ROSA.  But she does have a lead role in Ryan Gosling’s directorial effort, HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER and now she has another lead role, this time in the adaptation of A BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER.  The film is set to be directed by Campbell Scott, who is better known for his acting, but does have a few directing gigs under his belt.

The official Amazon.com synopsis of the 1977 book by Joan Didion reads: “A Book of Common Prayer is the story of two American women in the derelict Central American nation of Boca Grande. Grace Strasser-Mendana controls much of the country’s wealth and knows virtually all of its secrets; Charlotte Douglas knows far too little. “Immaculate of history, innocent of politics,” she has come to Boca Grande vaguely and vainly hoping to be reunited with her fugitive daughter. As imagined by Didion, her fate is at once utterly particular and fearfully emblematic of an age of conscienceless authority and unfathomable violence.” (Variety)
