Ben Affleck may direct the George Clooney produced film Argo

Ben Affleck just came off an incredible directorial success in last year’s THE TOWN and now he’s looking for a new project. He’s in early negotiations to take on the George Clooney and Grant Heslov political thriller ARGO. The film will be based on an article from Wired magazine about the 1979 Tehran hostage crisis. The article was entitled “How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran” and was written by Joshuah Bearman. Basically what happened was that there were six hostages from the U.S. embassy in Iran that were snuck out by the CIA when they devised a plan that had the hostages pose as a crew that was from Hollywood scouting locations for a film called Argo. Pretty over the top but apparently it worked out ok.

If a deal can be worked out between Affleck and the producers there is a very definite possibility that this will be the next project for the Academy Award winner.
