Steve Carell is one of those comedians that I think if I were to sit down and talk to him, he’d crack me up. He seems to have a naturally funny way about him, but for me, that doesn’t always translate well on the big screen. Which is why I’d like to see him take some more challenging roles and do some dramas (he was great in DAN IN REAL LIFE) to expand his resume. I’m not sure he’s going to accomplish that with his next film, A BOYFRIEND FOR MY WIFE. The film is actually a remake of a 2008 Argentine movie from director Juan Taratuto in which a pushover husband concocts a plan to get out of his marriage by setting his wife up with a “legendary Lothario”.
No word on who Carell will play, but the role of the Lothario is by far the better of the two male leads. The idea actually sounds funny, but maybe a little too familiar. Mark Gibson and Phil Halprin will be writing the script.
