Tom Cruise and Tim Curry bringing Legend to Blu-ray

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the 1985 fantasy film LEGEND, starring Tom Cruise, Tim Curry and Mia Sara, will be released on Blu-ray on May 31, 2011. The film was directed by Ridley Scott and follows a young man named Jack (Cruise) who must stop the Lord of Darkness (Curry) from marrying the woman he loves and destroying daylight. The Blu-ray will include both the theatrical version of the film with a run-time of 94 minutes as well as a director’s cut with a run-time of 114 minutes.

LEGEND is one of those cult classics that apparently everyone has seen but me, which I should see but I don’t feel too bad that I haven’t. Why you ask? That would be because the film sounds a little ridiculous and cheesy and although some cheese it good, I think it usually tends to be worse in fantasy films, especially ones that were made in the 1980’s. Special features include:

Legend Blu-ray

  • Commentary with Ridley Scott (on the director’s cut)
  • Isolated music score by Tangerine Dream (on the theatrical cut)
  • Lost scenes
  • Creating a Myth: The Making of Legend
  • Music video: Byan Ferry, “Is Your Love Strong Enough”
  • Theatrical trailers
  • TV spots
  • Photo gallery
  • My Scenes
  • BD-Live
  • Pocket BLU App
