Olga Kurylenko is set to join the epic Chinese 3D film EMPIRES OF THE DEEP. The film is about a man’s adventure in an underwater mermaid kingdom that he travels to in order to save his father. Epic sea-monster battles ensue. The film will be directed by Michael French and Jonathan Lawrence and will be the largest 3D production in China, budgeted at $100 million. Kurylenko is the only recognizable face (at least to American audiences), but she’ll be joined by Steve Polites and Yanfei Shi.
The film can make $100 million, and more, at the Chinese box-office, but I’m a little surprised they didn’t go for more recognizable stars with a budget like that. But Kurylenko must see something in the script that others don’t because she will also be joining the production team with former Avatar virtual camera operator Anthony Arendt.
