Hooray! The much anticipated film BLUE VALENTINE, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams and directed by Derek Cianfrance, has officially received an R rating instead of the dreaded NC-17. The MPAA overturned the appeal after Harvey Weinstein (aka The Big Guns) argued at today’s hearing. The film received the NC-17 rating because of a sex scene between the married couple (Gosling and Williams), whose marriage is deteriorating throughout the course of the film. So what does this mean now gentle viewers? It means we now all have a very good shot at actually seeing this film in the theaters because very few houses want to deal with the fall out from showing an NC-17 film. Good job Mr. Weinstein, we knew the board would be crazy to turn you down.
If you haven’t had a chance to see what all the fuss is about, you can watch the BLUE VALENTINE trailer here. I’m sure all this press will do wonders for opening weekend, so stay tuned for details.
