I’ll admit that there’s a small part of me that was hoping NEW MOON‘s box office numbers would drop like a rock in its second weekend, but the TWILIGHT sequel managed to pull in almost $66 million to win the five-day holiday weekend. I guess if there’s anything surprising about this week’s numbers, it’s that THE BLIND SIDE managed $57 million and actually gave NEW MOON a run for its money. OLD DOGS and NINJA ASSASSIN were the only two new wide releases this weekend and they managed $24 and $21 million respectively. Next week sees the release of BROTHERS and UP IN THE AIR and even though both of those films have the star power, I don’t think either of them have the appeal to challenge NEW MOON.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon $65,999,682
The Blind Side $57,530,347
2012 $25,549,508
Old Dogs $24,085,000
A Christmas Carol (2009) $22,557,631
Ninja Assassin $21,010,000
Planet 51 $13,899,974
The Fantastic Mr. Fox $9,499,685
Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire $9,419,745
The Men Who Stare at Goats $2,187,672
