I grew up watching the wacky Pee-wee’s Playhouse on Saturday mornings and Tim Burton’s dark PEE-WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE is one of my personal movie favorites. So I have to admit that I got a little excited when I read that Judd Apatow will be producing a Pee-wee Herman adventure movie for Universal. Paul Reuben’s loveable character has been on the rise recently with some television appearances and his new one-man show that is now heading to Broadway, which is specifically what caught the eye of Apatow.
It’s been nearly 20 years since Pee-wee has been relevant, ever since the man behind the man-child was arrested for public exposure. It has been said, that Reubens subliminally wanted to sabotage his character because he wanted to be remembered as Paul Reubens and not Pee-wee Herman. Apparently, he is ready to be remembered again. Reubens and Paul Rust will be writing the script.
