Think Like a Man Too Blu-ray Review

While “Luck Be a Lady” plays on the soundtrack, Cedric (Kevin Hart, RIDE ALONG) offers a brief history of Las Vegas, from the mafia in the 1930s and ‘40s to the days of Frank and the Rat Pack in the ‘60s. “But today, damn! Vegas has become Disneyland for adults…It’s the best place for men and women to get their freak on.”

Friends have come to Sin City for the wedding of Michael (Terrence J, BAGGAGE CLAIM) and Candace (Regina Hall, DEATH AT A FUNERAL): there’s Zeke (Romany Malco, LAST VEGAS) and Mya (Meagan Good, ANCHORMAN 2), who seem haunted by Zeke’s “freak” reputation; Dominic (Michael Ealy, FOR COLORED GIRLS) and Lauren (Taraji P. Henson, FROM THE ROUGH), who haven’t seen each other in ten days and so get done what they can in the limo from the airport; Jeremy (Jerry Ferrara, HBO’s ENTOURAGE) and Kristen (Gabrielle Union, BET’s BEING MARY JANE), who are trying to have a kid; Bennett (Gary Owen, the upcoming GET HARD) and Tish (Wendi McLendon-Covey, BLENDED), who are looking to rekindle their romance. And then there’s Cedric, who comes alone but with a sports car and a reservation in an enormous villa. The couples barely have their bags unpacked before they start bickering about things that show that they probably should have all gone separate ways before they hopped on a plane.

THINK LIKE A MAN TOO is the sequel to 2012’s THINK LIKE A MAN. Like its predecessor, THINK LIKE A MAN TOO falls flat in nearly every department, particularly the humor department. A few samples of the movie’s idea of humor: Cedric having stripper poles installed in his suite; Michael’s mother walking in on his make-out session; Cedric dancing in his underwear to some club song; resident white guy Bennett wearing a fanny pack and begging to see JERSEY BOYS; the obnoxious mother-in-law trying to get Candace to see a Dionne Warwick concert; the boys and girls ending up in prison before the wedding…

The screenplay, by David A. Newman and Keith Merryman (who wrote the original), is filled with so many obnoxious and unlikeable characters that the viewer starts to look in the background to see what the gamblers and partiers who didn’t get lines are up to. With so many important adult topics introduced—marriage, fatherhood, money, general responsibilities—it would seem appropriate for Newman and Merryman to take the time to expand on them and actually have something to say. But they don’t bother, because that would mean pulling Hart and company out of the strip clubs and away from the poker tables and Hall and the girls out from the salon and away from the party bus.

THINK LIKE A MAN TOO—which, also like its predecessor, is directed by Tim Story (RIDE ALONG, THE HURRICANE SEASON)—does nothing new with the characters except set them in a different location. And that seems to be the real purpose of greenlighting this sequel: so the cast could get together for a free trip to Las Vegas.
