Paramount has decided to revive the film of RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT which has been hanging out at the studio since 2007. The biopic about Robert Ripley is in the rewrite stages but doesn’t have a director attached anymore (Tim Burton was interested awhile ago). However, they do still have Jim Carrey attached to play Ripley so not all is lost. The screenplay is being overhauled by Eric Roth who has given us such gems as MUNICH and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON. The film will follow Ripley has he travels around the world to find the strange and bizarre which he is known for writing about (although most people now associate him with his museums and tourist attractions).No word on when filming or production will start.
I was always a little creeped out by the show RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT (I think it was hosted by Dean Cain), but I think a film of how he started looking into these strange people and places sounds interesting so I’m game.
