Today Miramax and The Weinstein Company dropped the bomb that will have lots of people confused, shaking their heads and downright disgusted. They have announced that sequels are in the works for BAD SANTA (this one isn’t the worst), SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE (seriously?) and ROUNDERS (why?). Not only are there going to be sequels to some great (BAD SANTA does not count here) films, but Miramax and Weinstein will be making some TV shows or more sequels off of some of their other films, like: BRIDGET JONES’S DIARY, COPLAND, FROM DUSK TIL DAWN (oh please, no), SWINGERS, CLERKS, SHALL WE DANCE and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR. There’s horror going on, that’s for sure.
To me, this is very distressing news because one of these films is a Best Picture winner-how can you justify doing a sequel to that? This is about as bad as George Lucas going back and re-working the original STAR WARS films. Well, nothing was as bad as that.
